The New York Housing Association, Inc., the statewide trade association of the manufactured home industry, seeks an Executive Director. As more fully described below, the Executive Director is responsible for carrying out the stated objectives of the Association, managing all operations, and ensuring that the needs of the members are met. Executive Director

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Executive Director is responsible for carrying out the stated objectives of the Association, managing all operations, and ensuring that the needs of the members are met. The Executive Director will promote the advancement of the association, create and maintain a positive image of the association to the public, and establish strong linkages among the association, businesses, industries, government and communities. These responsibilities are to be carried out through the duties performed by the Executive Director, coordination of a volunteer committee system and effective leadership of the employees and association.

REPORTS TO: The President of the Association and to the Board of Directors

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience:
    • Administration in the financial and daily operations of an organization;
    • Sales, marketing and public relations;
    • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking;
    • Five years in the field related to manufactured housing is preferred;
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred. A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer and oversee daily operations, services and programs of the association.
  • Administer and oversee Association fiscal operations;
  • Coordinate and support the functions, activities and services of the board of directors and all committees of the association.
  • Recruitment and retention of members.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of member services.
  • Recommend and support all appropriate legislative activities on behalf of the association;
  • Coordination of the Association’s lobbying activities in conjunction with the Association’s outside lobbyists;
  • Facilitate comprehensive marketing and public relations programs;
  • Conduct research to assess the needs and interests of members and consumers;
  • Serve as the liaison to members, consumers, legislators, businesses, industries, professional and trade organizations, media and the public;
  • Attend meetings of manufactured housing organizations, and coordinate with representatives of other state associations;
  • represent the association at trade shows, conventions, conferences, meetings, and special events;
  • Maintain a physical location as the association headquarters and retain responsibility for the operations of that office;
  • Recruit, hire and train all association staff. Coordinate all assignments, supervise and evaluate the performance of all association employees.
  • Collaborate with the association president on plans and agendas for Board meetings. Coordinate agendas and presentations for all other meetings;
  • Maintain the records of the Association
  • Approve the preparation and distribution of minutes of meetings, newsletters, announcements of events, memos and other correspondences.
  • Coordinate the support services provided to the association through contractual arrangements with accountants, consultants, attorneys, lobbyists and other professionals;
  • Approve all contracts with outside professionals and organizations. Monitor the performance and quality of all contractual services;
  • Stay current with market trends that effect the association’s member community, as well as the association.
  • Provide meaningful, concise, accurate, timely reports and presentations to the Association’s Board of Directors, officers and members as required;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President of the Association.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: Extensive travel throughout New York State on a regular basis, and travel out of state when necessary.  Must possess a valid, clean, New York State driver’s license and have access to a vehicle. Must be capable of transporting, assembling and disassembling large, heavy displays and/or materials for appropriate events. Long periods of sitting, alternating with long periods of standing will be required. Professional attire and appearance is required.
